The first word I learned to say is guaita. My paternal grandmother would take me for a walk in the trolley, and as we wandered around she would point at things with her finger and say: “Guaita Laia, guaita!”. She spoke a particular Catalan, she would say guaita instead of mira (look at). Guaitar means to watch carefully, analysing what is observed. Vigilant. Jo guaito 👀️

Hi, my name is Laia Miret (b. 1987, Terrassa). I explore the digital representation of limits, borders and territory through poetic experiences of repetition, gesture and ritual. In these explorations, I analyse and alter present representational systems to set aesthetic and critical narratives that occur between reality and fiction.

My work has been exhibited at the Design Museum of London, San Mei Gallery, Cutlog, Wallplay, Rox (the last three in New York City); it has been published by Metal Magazine and awarded by D&AD Impact.

I have taught at the Master Postgráfica by Mucho in IDEP, La Salle and Complot (all in Barcelona). I have lectured at Elisava, BAU, Kingston University, the RCA of London (where I studied for my Master’s) and ADC + She Says. I have been a jury at LAUS, Domestic Data Streamer’s Master at Elisava and at the Masters in Data Visualisation at BAU.

As an art and creative director, I have worked at Havas Media, PlayGround and as a freelancer for clients such as Ajuntament de Barcelona, Netflix, Penguin Random House, H&M, San Miguel, Beefeater, Red Bull, Volkswagen and Movistar Plus amongst others. I have also collaborated with collectives or entities such as Top Manta, Greenpeace, Arte.tv, Médicos sin Fronteras, Fab Lab, Fundación Ana Bella, Sonar and UNICEF.

I have been involved in projects to help, research and also have fun, such as No Name Kitchen in Ceuta, HMS Sweet Charity in Glastonbury Festival and Manifest Infància i Pantalles.
